As you may have notice, I am quite a fan of Mizuki’s manga works. Due to her work, it somehow inspired me to improve my skills in drawing as well. It all started when I finished reading Ichigo 100%, although that wasn’t my first time seeing her work. Akane-chan Overdrive was actually the first series that I’ve read; but back then I didn’t know that it was her because I didn’t pay any attention to its author/artist. Ichigo is the one that triggered my admiration towards her, being a manga artist. I started checking on other series she has done and so far, I have finished reading most of it such as Lilim’s Kiss, Hatsukoi Limited and Ane Doki.
When it comes to the storyline, most of her works fall under the theme of romance, drama, comedy and of course, echi (sexy contents). She seems fond of making echi scenes, which I find quite entertaining and witty. But sometimes, the echi and humor parts of the series tend to overpower the substance of the story. Hence, Ichigo 100% seems to still have more meaning, in terms of plot, compared to her much recent works. Anyway, I’ll just post my reviews on Hatsukoi and Ane Doki next time.
So moving on, I also like her drawing style. Though at times, I think her female characters have better appearance as compared to male characters. By the way, I just notice that some characters from her various series have resemblance. For example: Lilim, Aya, Misaki and Natsuki have all similar faces. Because of that, it somehow turned out to be her trademark/artistic identity. I just really admire her way of drawing – it’s an anime yet it has a dash of realistic in it.
